Forage Against the Machine: Making Edible-Plant Herbariums

Forage Against the Machine: Making Edible-Plant Herbariums

Forage Against the Machine: Making Edible-Plant Herbariums

Instructor: Anna Haglin

Date/time: Wednesdays June 28th, July 5th & 12th; 6:30pm—8:30pm.

Cost: $95

Description: Ever considered how you’d survive after the zombie apocalypse? Worried about the increasing price of organic produce? Never fear! Be you artist or eater, this class gives students what they need to forage for wild, edible plants. We’ll spend one class session in the woods, and two in the studio. Students leave our time together ready to hit the trails with their own hand-bound, screw-post herbarium—a field guide for your future foraging excursions that grows more voluminous as you gather!

Price includes the cost of bookbinding material.

Skill level: Beginner—neither bookbinding nor foraging knowledge necessary!

Age group: 15+

Instructor Bio: Anna Haglin is a multimedia artist and writer currently based in Iowa City. She grew up in Minnesota and attended Smith College in Massachusetts. She completed a two-year apprenticeship in bookbinding at the Arion Press in San Francisco and was a studio assistant at the Women’s Studio Workshop in upstate New York. Anna was a 2012 National Endowment for the Arts artist-in-residence at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, a finalist for the NYC Center for the Book Fellows Program, and a 2014 artist-in-residence at Art Farm in Nebraska. She just graduated from the University of Iowa’s graduate printmaking and book arts programs.
