Letterpress: Text and Image on the Proofing Press

Date/time: Sundays, November 19, 26, and Dec 3, 1-4pm

Cost: $115

Description: Explore how text and image can work together! Using the proofing press we will print a broadside or a French fold pamphlet using a combination of linoleum (image) and photopolymer plates (text).  We will cover a couple relief-based image making techniques, as well as the basics of digitally setting type in InDesign to ordering and printing a photopolymer plate.

Please come to class with an idea of an image and a piece of text, no longer than 200 words. We will be working within a 8.5x11 inch broadside (full sheet) or a 2 page 4.25x5.5 inch pamphlet (quartered sheet).

Prerequisite/skill level: Some printing experience or knowledge is helpful.

Age group: 15+

Instructor Bio: Elizabeth Munger is a maker of artist books, & print & paper works, including installations & collage. She is an Iowa native residing in Iowa City where she has her print studio, as well as runs & operates a print shop (the Paper Nest).  She received her B.F.A. in printmaking in 2000 and her M.F.A. in 2014 from the University of Iowa Center for the Book.

workshop cancellation/refund policy: If the IC Press Co-op cancels a workshop for any reason, students enrolled in the workshop are entitled to a full refund or may transfer the full tuition to another workshop.

If a student needs to cancel their enrollment in a workshop, they may do so up to 3 days (72 hours) before the workshop is scheduled to begin*. Students can request a full refund minus a $10 administrative fee or they may transfer the full amount credited to any upcoming workshop.

Students wishing to cancel after the 3-day cut-off are not eligible for a refund or transfer of funds.

*Some workshops may have earlier registration/cancellation deadlines, which will be noted in the workshop description.
