Description:  In this introduction to metalsmithing skills course, learn about foundational tools and practices in metal work. Ever wanted to know how to shape your own plates using a jeweler’s saw? Or had the burning desire to design your own wearable art? Use this time to make a practice plate for printmaking that you can combine with etching/intaglio and relief printing, or make yourself a piece of statement jewelry. You will leave this course with knowledge about materials and tools that can help you explore your interests in print and/or jewelry. Bring a sketchbook, and an image or drawing on plain printer paper that can serve as your inspiration (maximum 4” x 4”). The $75 basic course fee includes materials such as saw blades, sandpaper, tape, adhesive and sheet metal, as well as the use of instructor-owned tools. For an additional $20, this course will include an optional tool kit you can take home with you including 2 needle files, your own jeweler’s saw, and a bench pin.
